There are aftermarket wireless CarPlay USB dongles available but some only work with CarPlay and some only work with Android Auto. My understanding is that these dongles use their own “WiFi network” to communicate with

When I bought my 2017 CX5 just over a year ago, Mazda was heavily seeding the car buying community with the message that models would be available for Apple Carplay upgrade. Mazda came late to the game in offering Apple Carplay capability. And get this, they now want $500 ($199 for the parts and $300 for labor) to do this upgrade!

Jan 29, 2023 · Apple CarPlay will not launch in CX-9 after plugging in the USB cable if your iPhone is locked and you haven’t allowed access in the settings. Go to Settings > General > CarPlay, and select your vehicle name under MY CAR. Then turn on the slider button next to ‘Allow CarPlay While Locked’. Settings > General > CarPlay > Your Car Name
